What $25 vs $50 Gets You at an SF Singles Event

I went to both. Here's the honest breakdown.

Singles events in San Francisco range from $25 to $50 a ticket. That might not sound like a big difference, but the two experiences are almost nothing alike. I've been to both recently — Jigsaw on the lower end, Intelligent Singles on the higher — and the gap in crowd, venue, and opportunity is worth understanding before you spend your Saturday night.

The $25 Event: High Energy, Temper Your Expectations

Jigsaw events run around $25 and skew younger. The venues are casual, the crowd is mostly in their 20s, and the gender ratio is classic San Francisco: somewhere between 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 men to women.

Which sounds discouraging. But the energy is genuinely fun.

When there are a lot of guys at an event, people move. Nobody gets stuck in one corner for two hours. Conversations are lighter, the room circulates, and it's actually a pretty natural environment to practice talking to strangers without a ton of pressure. As a younger guy trying to get comfortable in social situations, that's worth $25.

Just be honest with yourself about why you're there. You're not likely to walk out with a date. You're there for the reps, the social practice, and a decent night out. That's a fine reason to go — as long as it's the reason you're going.

The $50 Event: Different Crowd, Different Math

Intelligent Singles events are a different animal. Venues like the St. Regis and the Ritz-Carlton, tickets around $50, and a crowd that skews 30s, 40s, and 50s. People dress up. The vibe is more intentional.

And the gender ratio flips entirely.

At these events, women significantly outnumber men. A lot of them are in their late 30s or early 40s — done with the apps, out of a long relationship or a divorce, genuinely looking to meet someone. They show up in numbers and bring their friends.

As a guy, this changes everything. You're not cold approaching into heavy competition. Groups form naturally. If you're comfortable holding a conversation, you can easily end up talking to two or three women at once just because the ratio makes it easy. The activation energy required from everyone is lower. The conversations go deeper.

The $50 is doing real work here.

So Which One Should You Go To?

Honestly, it depends on your age more than your budget.

If you're in your 20s, the $25 Jigsaw events are worth trying for the social experience alone. Don't go expecting to meet your next girlfriend. Go expecting to get comfortable, meet people, and have a good time.

If you're 35 or older, skip straight to the $50 events. The crowd is more serious, the ratio is in your favor, and the opportunity is real. At that point the extra $25 isn't a splurge — it's just the cost of being in the right room.

Either way, the event only opens the door. You still have to walk through it.
